Leslie Green, MS
Co-Founder and CEO
Leslie Green was born and reared in Franklin, Indiana, where her maternal great-grandparents settled more than one hundred and twenty-five years ago. Early on, she was told and retold her family’s history; fascinated, this has led her into a near forty-year quest for her family’s origins.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University, her Master’s Degree from Purdue Calumet (now Purdue Northwest), and was admitted into the Educational Specialist’s program at the same university. Leslie served her entire professional career with the Gary (IN) Community School Corporation. During her tenure there, she was a teacher, Teacher Consultant, coordinator of the district’s USDOE Technology Innovation Challenge Grant, and provided vital school improvement services, among other positions. She was a Hewlett-Packard technology proposal reviewer for their international grant competition as well as an essay evaluator for the State of Indiana’s end-of-year assessment. Leslie also was awarded an Eli Lilly Creativity Fellowship in which she documented the presence of African-Americans in antebellum Indiana.
Over her career, she had been a member of a number of educational associations, including ISTE, ASCD, and others. Leslie retired in 2018. She has found new joy in dancing, cycling, and traveling.
The Other Side was born in an effort to transform tragedy into hope after the unexpected deaths of people that she has loved. Leslie is committed to walk this path, and in doing so, help shine a light for others to embrace and follow.
MacKenzie Milon, LCSW

MacKenzie Milon was raised in Merrillville, Indiana, and in 2012, she made the transformative move to Nashville, Tennessee, to attend Fisk University—a decision that would shape both her personal and professional journey.
MacKenzie earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Fisk University before earning her Master of Social Work from Howard University, where she concentrated in Criminal Justice. During her time at Fisk, MacKenzie was recruited to play for the Fisk University Volleyball Team, where
she earned All-Conference honors and served as team captain. Her experience as a student-athlete helped shape the leader she would become, instilling in her the importance of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and perseverance. During her graduate studies, she continued to demonstrate a commitment to excellence and leadership, earning recognition as Howard University School of Social Work’s 2017–2018 Direct
Practice Student of the Year.
MacKenzie’s passion for service and community impact has been a consistent thread throughout her journey. Tony Martin, BS

John A. “Tony” Martin grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana, and graduated high school in 1988. He attended Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Michigan, where he studied general art studies and played basketball and baseball, before transferring to Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and Supervision in May 1994 while competing in Division II basketball and baseball.
Tony has a strong athletic background, having played football, basketball, and baseball in high school and continuing basketball and baseball in college. He also contributed to his community by coaching youth basketball and baseball for many years.
After college, Tony began his career in manufacturing supervision and people management. In 2003, he joined the 3M Sales team, selling tapes and adhesives. His accomplishments include Outstanding Leadership in 2003, Coaching the Sales Professional in 2004, and multiple Super Achiever awards in 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2018.
Outside of work, Tony enjoys spending time with family, relaxing at the lake, and supporting the work of The Other Side: Investing in Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Rod Johnson
Board Chair
Rod’s life’s work has centered on building relationships, serving communities, and helping people move toward stronger futures. A retired technology sales professional, Rod brings more than 40 years of experience in the technology industry, where he built a career rooted in leadership, relationship-building, and service.
His career began in direct sales and evolved into leadership roles, including sales management, vice president, and founder of his own company. Near the end of his career, Rod returned to direct sales, allowing him to focus on building client relationships and delivering solutions firsthand. He retired in 2025 after working with organizations including Sybase, Goal Systems, Symantec, and Fortinet.
Service has remained a guiding principle throughout Rod’s life. His commitment to giving back began with establishing a scholarship program for deserving high school students through his college alumni chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, where he served as Chapter Basileus. His passion for mentorship continued in the 1980s when he founded a mentoring ministry through his church in the Chicagoland area to support and encourage young men. After relocating to the Dallas–Fort Worth area, he continued this work by personally mentoring three young men, further strengthening his commitment to helping others reach their potential.
Rod’s dedication to service also extends to elder care. For more than 15 years, he led a nursing home ministry, providing encouragement, companionship, and support to residents. He also served for three years as Vice President of a nonprofit organization focused on mentoring high school students.
Today, Rod continues to serve his faith community as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry at his church, a leadership role he has held for the past six years. Although retired from his professional career, Rod remains committed to using his experience, relationships, and passion for service to positively impact the lives of others through volunteerism, mentorship, and community engagement.
Dr. Barbara Milon

Dr. Barbara Milon is an accomplished civic leader, community development professional, and organizational development scholar with a career spanning government, nonprofit leadership, education, and community advocacy.
She currently serves as Commissioner of the City of St. Louis Division of Civilian Oversight, where she oversees investigations of allegations involving corrections officers and leads a team committed to accountability, transparency, and fairness. Previously, she served as a Grants Administrator for the City of St. Louis Community Development Administration and as Chairperson of the City of Cincinnati Community Development Advisory Board, where she helped guide recommendations for $14–$21 million in annual Community Development Block Grant funding. She was also twice elected Chair of the Ohio Community Development Finance Fund Board of Directors, becoming the first African American woman to hold the position.
For nearly fourteen years, Dr. Milon served as Executive Director of Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, where she developed innovative early childhood literacy and family education initiatives, including the Smart Play Spot in partnership with the Minnesota Children’s Museum.
Dr. Milon holds a Doctorate in Organization Development from the University of St. Thomas, a Master of Science in Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Xavier University. Her career reflects a lifelong commitment to equity, accountability, community empowerment, and creating opportunities for individuals and communities to thrive.
Alice Parrott, LCSW

Alice Parrott is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a mental health private practice in Florida. She is committed to providing proactive prevention and timely intervention services for families utilizing a holistic approach. Alice has worked extensively in the fields of education and mental health. Her passion and core beliefs are aligned with the mission and vision of TOS. She is a champion of the comprehensive TOS approach to make strengths-based services accessible to those who may be overwhelmed by life experiences.
Alice holds a Master Degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University.
Dr. Ashli-Ann Douglas
Board Member
Dr. Ashli-Ann Douglas is an educational researcher at WestEd, a research, development, and service agency committed to a vision of thriving learners and empowered communities. In this role, she works to improve math learning experiences and outcomes for all students across preschool, K–12, and adult basic education contexts, with a focus on early childhood education, family engagement, student mindsets and identities, and culturally responsive teaching.
Dr. Douglas has published in academic journals and books, including Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Journal of Educational Psychology, and Advances in Child Development and Behavior. She has also presented at national and international conferences, including the National Black Child Development Institute, National Association for the Education of Young Children, American Educational Research Association, and Society for Research in Child Development. She also shares research findings through webinars and workshops for families, designs and implements professional learning to support educators in improving their math
instruction and family engagement, and co-facilitates the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Early Math Interest Forum.
She earned a PhD in Developmental Psychology, a Master of Science in Psychology, and a certificate in college teaching from Vanderbilt University. She is also a proud alumna of Fisk University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and completed an elementary teacher licensure program. She is
committed to transforming education for the benefit of all students through research, evaluation, teacher professional development, and community service.
Dr. Earl Lattimore
Board Member
Dr. Earl R. Lattimore, EdD, MSP, is an accomplished education and community engagement leader with over 20 years of experience advancing student success, family empowerment, and equitable access to resources.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Lattimore has built a distinguished career spanning higher education, social services, and
public policy—specializing in programs that support students with disabilities, incarcerated youth, and families in need of systemic connection and advocacy.
Currently serving as the ERSEA/Parent Engagement Coordinator at the Metropolitan Action Commission, he leads data-driven initiatives that strengthen parent involvement, community partnerships, and program compliance under Head Start Performance Standards. His work has also encompassed instructional and administrative roles at Meharry Medical College, Fisk University, and Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, where he guided curriculum development, staff training, and student support systems.
A Doctor of Education in Leadership and Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University, Dr. Lattimore also holds advanced credentials in Public Service Management and Non-Profit Leadership. He is deeply engaged in civic service, contributing to numerous boards and advisory committees focused on education, mental health, and family advocacy across the Nashville community.

Dr. Ashli-Ann Douglas
Board Member
Dr. Ashli-Ann Douglas is an educational researcher at WestEd, a research, development, and service agency committed to a vision of thriving learners and empowered communities. In this role, she works to improve math learning experiences and outcomes for all students across preschool, K–12, and adult basic education contexts, with a focus on early childhood education, family engagement, student mindsets and identities, and culturally responsive teaching.
Dr. Douglas has published in academic journals and books, including Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Journal of Educational Psychology, and Advances in Child Development and Behavior. She has also presented at national and international conferences, including the National Black Child Development Institute, National Association for the Education of Young Children, American Educational Research Association, and Society for Research in Child Development. She also shares research findings through webinars and workshops for families, designs and implements professional learning to support educators in improving their math
instruction and family engagement, and co-facilitates the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Early Math Interest Forum.
She earned a PhD in Developmental Psychology, a Master of Science in Psychology, and a certificate in college teaching from Vanderbilt University. She is also a proud alumna of Fisk University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and completed an elementary teacher licensure program. She is
committed to transforming education for the benefit of all students through research, evaluation, teacher professional development, and community service.
Dr. Earl Lattimore
Board Member
Dr. Earl R. Lattimore, EdD, MSP, is an accomplished education and community engagement leader with over 20 years of experience advancing student success, family empowerment, and equitable access to resources.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Lattimore has built a distinguished career spanning higher education, social services, and
public policy—specializing in programs that support students with disabilities, incarcerated youth, and families in need of systemic connection and advocacy.
Currently serving as the ERSEA/Parent Engagement Coordinator at the Metropolitan Action Commission, he leads data-driven initiatives that strengthen parent involvement, community partnerships, and program compliance under Head Start Performance Standards. His work has also encompassed instructional and administrative roles at Meharry Medical College, Fisk University, and Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, where he guided curriculum development, staff training, and student support systems.
A Doctor of Education in Leadership and Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University, Dr. Lattimore also holds advanced credentials in Public Service Management and Non-Profit Leadership. He is deeply engaged in civic service, contributing to numerous boards and advisory committees focused on education, mental health, and family advocacy across the Nashville community.
